* * * * * Why SABR New York City is named the Casey Stengel Chapter

Charles Dillon 'Casey' Stengel was affiliated with all four New York teams. He played for Brooklyn (1912-1917) and the Giants (1921-1923) He managed the Yankees (1949 -1960) winning ten pennants and seven World Series titles. He was the first manager of the Mets (1962-1965).

2022 marked the 60th anniversary of the New York Mets who played in the Polo Grounds for two seasons while Shea Stadium was being built. Casey was 72 years old when he became manager. [E. Miller]
